Hey look! My kid goes to Garden!

On my mind now

On my way back home after visiting my parents for lunch today, I shot some pictures while being stuck in terrible traffic. It was the intersection of Mon’t Kiara to Garden International School (GIS) towards Segambut.

Of course, I acknowledge the timing of my trip was ill-thought taking into consideration school dismissal time. And rightfully so.

At the very junction approaching the school on the right, vehicles were all over the place. Many ignored basic traffic rules. And the basic rule: do not stop your vehicle right inside a yellow-box. Just because the yellow paint on the road has worn off, it doesn’t mean that the rule is suspended. Right? Well, take a look yourself:

Err…. this act of just thinking of ‘myself first’ or being self-ish caused the entire junction to be grid-locked. And guess what, as if the 2pm heat wasn’t enough, it added to everyone with raising temperatures and endless honking.

Actually, the entire lane approaching the school is a two-way dual-lane, wide enough. But here’s the problem: The problem is some people want to shout to the world ‘Hey look! My kid goes to Garden! And I have a big car to match!’

Some drivers (presumably parents receiving their children from school) simply parked along the lane causing the dual-lane to be a single lane! Here are some pictures I took:

Here’s another string of nice, expensive, high performance cars, but unfortunately owned by lesser brained folks:

But I guess the champion of the day was this owner who wanted to shout to the world: ‘Hey look! my kid goes to Garden! And check out my car, too!’

What education or lesson would these folks expect to teach their kids? Get straight A’s but screw the traffic rules and don’t care about others?

A classic case of the uneducated educating their kids in an upmarket education institution.

I have been to private or international schools where all parents were ‘educated’ to follow basic common sense and hence the traffic at school dismissal time although heavy, but is always flowing and manageable. A certain Mrs. Margaret Kaloo would be proud! But in the meantime, it’s time the Gardeners re-look at how they could manage this better.
