Remove the fog

Networking Expert, One-on-ones

In many classes I have been conducting lately in business networking, often a question many business people need to think of is their Unique Selling Proposition, commonly known as USP.

Sales and marketing gurus will often drum this to death: gotta know your USP.

USP: what is it? Unique Selling Proposition.

Ok, is it that simple? If it was that simple then you won’t be struggling in writing down at least 5 of your business USPs right this moment. But I can imagine, you can’t.

So, how do you write down your USPs?

Of course, some research will help. Google up, read up, and then read examples of other businesspeople’s USPs. It might give you an idea on how to write yours. Still it’s by no mean an easy task. I have met business people who have been successful in their own rights for decades, but can’t seem to think of their USPs straight front.

The thing is: we as humans are becoming too complex as our thoughts become more and more complex by the day. Some may be tempted to think that the more complex your business is described, the more impressive it will be. Think those days are over, in fact, the simpler it is, the better instead.

So, how do we think in simple terms?

We need to train that muscle, just like any. We need to re-train our thought process to start thinking in simple terms.

A suggestion would be: write down daily, in simple language, what made you happy that day. This can be in a journal, or your daily tweet or in your favourite social media status line, such as in Facebook.

By starting to think in simple language and choice of words, of what has made you happy, you are now going to be training your thought process to become simpler. As you do this for a couple of weeks and months, you will then find a knack for thinking everything without the complexity of thoughts. Then, your business USPs will jump out like toasted bread out of the toaster!

Try it to believe it. You can start by entering in the reply section here, what has made you happy yesterday. Let’s get the ball rolling for you!

Go ahead, remove the fog out of your life!
