We need to get on with it!
Consider this:
1. You hail down a taxi-cab to go to your destination and the driver says to you, that’s he’s only learning to drive.
2. You ask your PA to write a cheque for a rental payment and he says to you, that he’s only learning to write.
3. You call in the electrician to fix a power-trip in your home, and the man says to you, he’s only learning to do electrical works now.
And these should be good:
4. You go under the surgeon’s knife and overhear him as you are are put to sleep that he is only learning!
When do we draw the line between someone saying, ‘I am continuously learning’, against getting on with the work involved. I have been livid lately when I find that people who cannot perform their duties/description of duties and hide behind the ‘continuous learning process’ shield.
It would be refreshing if indeed someone who owned up to their inability to conduct their duties and instead admit that fact, and seek support.
So, the taxicab driver who is only now learning to drive has no business driving a taxi-cab… not in my world. In my world only the capable, competent, capable person is on the job.
On the job training or continuous education or learning is then to add up to the existing fundamental skills or knowledge to enhance the performance.
